As Spire’s president and chief executive officer, Suzanne Sitherwood is committed to using energy for good. With the help of 3,600 employees, she leads the way in redefining what it means to serve Spire’s customers and communities—while increasing shareholder value.
With more than 40 years of experience in the natural gas industry, Suzanne oversees all aspects of Spire, including its natural gas utilities in Alabama, Mississippi and Missouri that serve nearly 1.8 million customers. Under her leadership, the company has quadrupled its market value and enterprise value by acquiring four natural gas utilities, building a 65-mile interstate pipeline, transforming its marketing and trading business, and developing natural gas storage facilities serving the western U.S. Today, Spire is the fifth largest publicly traded natural gas company in the country.
Throughout her career, Suzanne has leveraged her experience and skills to benefit others.
In addition to launching a robust Corporate Social Responsibility program within Spire, she serves as chair of the American Gas Association and sits on multiple boards, including BJC Healthcare. Suzanne has chaired numerous civic groups and philanthropic efforts in the St. Louis region and currently serves as a member of the Chair’s Council of Greater St. Louis, Inc. as well as chair of the AllianceSTL Advisory Board.
Her commitment to service and leadership continues to be recognized. She has been named one of St. Louis’ “Most Influential Business Women” and “Who’s Who in Energy” by the St. Louis Business Journal. She’s also been recognized with the Levee Stone award for her commitment to downtown St. Louis, and Variety St. Louis’ Woman of the Year.
Suzanne has a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering technology from the Southern College of Technology and an MBA from Brenau University.
Suzanne and Carl Bouckaert reside in Central West End in Saint Louis. They have four children and 10 grandchildren.
