AGA files comments to DOJ/DEA NPRM on Rescheduling of Marijuana as a Controlled Substance
On July 22, 2024, AGA filed comments (jointly with APGA and INGAA) to the Department of Justice docket seeking comments on a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) that would revise the scheduling of marijuana as a controlled substance from Schedule 1 to Schedule 3.
The Associations expressed concern about the unintended consequences DOJ’s change may have on HHS-certified laboratories and testing protocols, and the downstream effects to DOT drug testing which pipeline operators are subject to.
The comments highlight the need for continuity in testing programs for transportation safety-sensitive employees, and encourages collaboration between DOT and DOJ.
Full comments can be found on docket DEA-2024-0059.
