AGA and the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) EEI-AGA SEC Comment Letter – June 2, 2021
On June 2, 2021 AGA and the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) submitted formal comments in response to the Security and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) March request for public input on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and climate change disclosures. In our joint comments, we re-iterated the gas and electric utility industry’s commitment to ESG and climate-related initiatives and highlighted our experience developing the EEI-AGA ESG/Sustainability Reporting Template, the first of its kind, sector-wide ESG reporting template with a focus on environmental and climate disclosure. The joint comments encouraged the SEC to adopt a principles-based approach that allows flexibility for the disclosure of ESG and climate information, as opposed to a rules-based, one-size-fits-all approach. In addition, we urged the SEC not to delegate its ESG reporting authorities to NGOs or other private companies. Our engagement with the SEC will be ongoing as it examines these matters, and we will continue to keep you apprised of important SEC updates and our advocacy activities.
